I haven’t written to you in a while, so I thought it would be good to make some contact. First of all, happy almost-summer! School is winding down, and the weather is slowly-but-surely getting warmer (I think).
A few possibilities for the summer –
Service –
- The Summer Of Service men are working regularly on our church grounds. Hal Heffner suggested that we have a small group of women who would like to keep the grounds of Charis counseling center (the parsonage) looking nice. Right now, it could use some trimming of blackberry bushes and weeds. We’re invited to join the men for dinner this Wed (hotdogs?) and then work on Charis. Also, along with the men’s SOS, there is an occasional need for some to come alongside the person being served, e.g. doing some indoor cleaning, visiting, etc. Please RSVP if you’d like to have a part in any of these opportunities. Come, join me!
- VBC is coming up soon! Vacation Bible Camp is happening the week of July 11-15! Registration starts this next Sunday. This is great opportunity to hang out, do some work, and be with some friends as you are surrounded by a ton of fun kids. There is a need for several leaders and helpers. If you are interested, contact April Barrett at apeybar@comcast.net.
Fun – a must during the summer. (The men have invited us to do a couple activities with them, too!)
- Disc golf – July 19. We’ll probably play in the morning and then come back to the church for some lunch of some kind. It is open to anyone (family activity) and there will be a prize awarded. There will be a few $$ cost to cover food and prize.
- Hiking – nothing specific planned yet, but keep your ears and eyes open.
- Ladies’ Bunco – stay tuned for details on a bunco night with your girlfriends!
- Moms’ “Bike and Walk” – for moms of ALL ages. Let me know if you’d like to be a part of this, and if you have ideas for times and locations. What a great time to enjoy fresh air and make some connections with other moms, young and old.
- Other stuff – Get together with a neighbor, hang out at a park with another mom with some kids, go for a soothing walk at Lewisville Park, take time to be in the Word, pray, encourage, love. This is on your own initiative. You can do it!
- More? What else would you ladies like to do?
Outreach
- Shepherd’s Door – our Tuesday morning Growth Group has gone down three times to eat lunch with the women. This last time, we made and served the lunch. Open to all bpChurch women, please join us on Tuesday, June 21. Taco salad is the plan! RSVP by Thursday, June 16 if you can come! I need a minimum of 5! C’mon gals, we can do this. It’s well worth it!
- Compassion Connect – July 23, area churches will be coming together to serve our neighbors in Vancouver. Keep an eye open for more details. Here is the web site http://www.compassionconnect.com/ It’s really a great ministry, and I think it would be great if many of us would join in on this.
Camp Tadmore – Conservative Baptist Northwest (CBNW) has their annual retreat for women July 15-17. Bev Hislop is the guest speaker this year. I know Bev and highly recommend her. She is Associate Professor of Pastoral Care to Women and Exec. Director of the Women's Center for Ministry at Western Seminary. I put some brochures in the welcome center kiosk in the foyer.
Please RSVP to let me know how you'd like to get connected, and even if you'd like to help organize some of these things.
Blessings to you!
